Octopus

I've always thought octopi were so fascinating. Octopuses are considered the most intelligent of ever single invertebrate. They can solve problems, such as removing a plug or unscrew a lid to get prey from a container, if they needed to. They are the first invertebrates to actually be seen using tools. Tools like using coconut shells to hide from predators looking for them and using rocks and jets of water in a some way that protects them.

Studies show that octopuses learn very easily, they also learn by observing another octopus.
The octopus has a wide variety of techniques they use to avoid there attackers. Its first defense mechanism of defense is the ability to hide in plain sight. The use off pigment cells and special muscles in its skin, the common octopus can almost match the colors, patterns, and even textures of its surroundings. Predators like eels, dolphins, and sharks swim by without even noticing it at all.

Some scientists say octopi have different personalities. Every single octopi is venomous, but only the small blue-ringed octopuses are known to be very deadly to humans. There is about 300 species recognizable to humans. Octopuses have three hearts. Really weird I think. Two pump blood through the two gills they have, while the third pumps blood through the body. When seen, an octopus will give off a cloud of black ink to distract its attacker, giving it time to swim away. The ink even has a substance that dulls a predator's sense of smell,  that way the fleeing octopus is harder to track.
The mimic octopuses can change their body shape to mimic some other animals. Octopi have a beaklike jaw that can be a nasty bite, with venomous saliva, mainly used for subduing prey. If an animals rips of a tentacle in a fight and it loses it, it'll grow back with no damage.

Monkeys

Every different kind of money has his or her own abilities, size, and color. Monkeys are know for being very caring animals. Monkeys are very vocal. They have different pitches for different things. Like calling for their mate, warning that there is danger, and also to communicate with their young. There is 264 species of monkeys that we know about. They can be pretty small or very large, it all depend on the species. Monkeys have eyes in the front of their face, and flat noses. Monkeys have opposable thumbs just like humans do. Monkey are the animal that is very similar to humans. Monkeys can show sadness, love, anger, mourn the loss of another monkey friend, and even laugh. Just like us humans, monkeys have there special own finger prints. For certain monkeys, they may not have a future, their habitats are being destroyed. Some villages even kill monkeys because they eat there crops. How cruel and wrong. They even sometimes eat the meat of the monkeys. That is so disgusting. There are still so many different species of monkeys on earth that we don't even know about.

Kitty Cat

I just think that cats are the cutest thing in the world. So that's why I picked cats for this one.

The scientific name for a cat is Felis Catus. They sleep for like 6-12 house a day. Lazy cats! They are warm blooded and a mammal of course. They love, love, LOVE, rats and mice. Also if your cat is an outside cat or inside and outside, they'll probably go after tinier birds. I know my best friend cat does. They are very smart animals. Also very independent. They only do things when they want. If they want something like, food, attention or to be left alone, they will let it be known to there owner. Cats have a lot of different personalities. Some cats meow at everything, and some cats just stay quite. Some have issues and will only let one person love on them, and some will be an attention whore. Like my cat, he is an attention whore. He'll come up too you and head but you. He'll lay on your chest and practically hug you. That's why cats are my favorite. except for the mean ones. Some cats stay strictly to cat food, and come cats will eat anything, like human food and dog food. I only said the dog food part because my cat eats dog food sometimes. I'll catch him eating it. Some like to sleep in cupboards and some like to sleep where all the action is happening, then you have the ones that like to be warm, comfy and cozy.

Here Fishy Fishy Fishy.......

I just had to use that as the title because when my family goes fishing, and we haven't had a bite in a while we say that. Normally it gives us good luck! :)

Fish have been on this earth for over 450 million years. Fish obviously live in the waters and use gills to breathe. Fish were even around before dinosaurs. There are still so many different spices of fish that have no been discovered. In fact, all of the species of fish are more than, reptiles, birds, mammals, and amphibians combined.

Only 40% of fish breath fresh water. Some fish have cartilage for their bones. The largest fish in the world is the Great Whale Shark. The smallest fish is called the Philippine Goby. Some fishes can even glide on top of the water.

Fish can feel stress and pain just like humans. Tropical fish are very popular in the United States. Fish have a very good sense of hearing, sight, taste, and touch. Fish have a special organ witch is sort of like a radar, it helps them swim in dark and non clear water.

Tropical fish usually come from Asia, Africa, and South and Central America. Some flatfish are perfect for the ocean. They lay right under the sand, using the sand as camouflage. My favorite tropical fish is the Clown Fish, only because of the movie Finding Nemo.  More than 1000 fish are threatened for extinction. Sad right? :( Poor Fishes. I find it quite funny hoe Jelly Fish are called Jelly FISH, but aren't actually a fish.

Anteater

  1. Anteaters have no teeth.
  2. When an anteater eats ants and termites he doesn't destroy the ant hill or mounds. He just wants his food.
  3. With their long tongue, they can lap up 35,000 ants or termites while swallowing them whole.
  4. The anteater uses its claws to open up the whole to the ant hill and uses its long snout to to put it down the whole to eat the ants, and the anteater does this quickly.
  5. An Anteater can flick their tongue up to 160 times per minute!!
  6. While an anteater is trying to eat it's dinner, the ants will actually sting the anteaters tongue. So the Anteater has only so much time to eat as many ants as he can.
  7. Anteaters have horrible eye sights, so they use there keen sense of smell more than their eyes.
  8. Anteaters are found in Central America and South America.
  9. Anteaters prefer more tropical places and also grasslands.

  10. There is four different species of anteaters. They also are in all different sizes.
  11. A Silky Anteater can be the size of a squirrel.
  12. Some anteaters like the silky anteater go after there prey in the trees.
  13. An Anteater is a mammal.
  14. They can live up to 14 years.
  15. Anteaters can weigh up to 40 to 140 pounds.
  16. Anteaters are a threatened species.
  17. The tongue of an anteater can be up to two feet long.
  18. A female Anteater has one offspring per year.
  19. Anteaters are not aggressive at all, but they can be fierce.
  20. When an anteater feels threatened they will get up on their back legs using their tail for balance and use their claws to protect themselves.

Who? Who? Who?

Owls are nocturnal, which mean they see better at night. They stand in an upright stance, they have a large, broad head, outstanding vision and hearing, and there feathers are made to be silent when they fly. Owls are one of the most amazing and fascinating animals on earth. Some facts might actually surprise you, not many people know much about owls.

There is more then 150 different species of owls around the world. Only 19 different species are found in North America. All different owls live in all different types of habitats. The only place you will never find an owl is an Antarctica.

When the owls stand in the upright posture, it give them binocular vision. Owls can pinpoint where they prey is just by listing, they don't even have to see it. That's awesome. Owls have ear tufts that aren't actually ears. They are just feathers that can be used for camouflage, show the owls mood, and aggression.

An owls eyes are supported by (this may sound gross) bony eye sockets and cannot turn there head at all. So instead of having it easy they have to move their entire head just to look around. They can rotate there head about 270 degrees around, but cannot turn them all the way around.

An owl has three eye lids, which is very weird and cool at the same time. One is for blinking obviously, sleeping and the third one is to keep their eyes clean and healthy. A barn owl can eat up to 1,000 mice per year. Most farmers try to attract the barn owls so they keep the mice population down, which is a smart idea.

The Top Predator In The Ocean

Sharks are so awesome to me, they're so viscous and interest me so much. When I was younger I was obsessed with anything that had to do with sharks. Weather it was movies, shows about them, posters, stickers, and stuffed animals. All things to do with sharks. Sharks fascinate me, I have no idea why but they do. Even though I'm terrified of them and would be to scared to swim to far out into the ocean, I love them.

Shark have about 5 to seven gill splits that they breath out of. The scientific name for a shark is Selachimorpha. They can live anywhere from 20 – 30 years. Adult sharks can swim up to 8 km per hour. Sharks are known for killing anything in the ocean, also they are the top predator in the ocean waters.

Sharks are pretty good at keeping the food web really well balanced and healthy. They're pretty much at the top of the food chain in the ocean, anything below them they regulate the population of whatever it is they eat. There are way more than 465 species of sharks that we know of. That's crazy! Research shows that sharks are decreasing in population rapidly, which is effecting the ecosystem.

Sharks bones are made out of cartilage. It's a tissue that is a lot more flexible as well as lighter than bone. Sharks have two rows of razor sharp teeth. Shark lose their teeth quite a lot, but they always grow more back in.

A sharks skin is made up of scales. It acts almost like a skeleton, that way, the shark an move easier through the water. The scales also saves the shark energy while swimming though the ocean. The shark has a white belly and a darker top. That's because if a predator was looking down at the shark, his back would blend in with the dark ocean water. If a predator was looking up at a shark, he would still blend in the the sun shining through the ocean water.

Sharks can smell a drop of blood up to a mile away. Most kinds of sharks eat things like fish, crustaceans, marine mammals, even some other sharks, mollusks, plankton, krill.

1.       Black Bears mainly eat, berries, and insect larvae.

2.       They have very great senesce of smell, and colored vison.

3.       Surprisingly, Black Bears are shy and easily surprised.

4.       Black Bears are very curious animals, also very smart.

5.       When they go into hibernation they do not eat anything for a total of 7 Months.

6.       Black Bears can run up to 35 miles per hour, just like a giraffe!

7.       Black Bears can weigh up to 125 or 600 pounds!

8.       Girl Black Bears can give birth to up to 3 cubs.

Grizzly Bears

All Grizzly Bears are such amazing animals. Grizzly Bears love to eat fungi, roots, and sprouts. Three of their favorite things are fish, warm blooded animals, and insects. You can most certainly find a Grizzly in an ancient forest, or other types of dense forests. They love meadows and open land to live on, their habitat. Grizzly Bears are a top predator for sure. Grizzly’s love berries, so while they eat them seeds are obviously going to fall out at they’re walking, and when this happens they make a lot of plant life around the areas they eat the berries.

Brown Bear

Brown Bears are usually found in Alaska, West Canada, Wyoming, and Montana. Small populations of Brown Bears are also found in Asia and Europe. Right now, Russia has a very healthy population of Brown Bears. Even though Brown Bears are called “Brown Bears” they can either b brown, black, and even blonde. They call some brown bears “Big Browns” which are found on the coast of Alaska and Russia. They are called this because they are the largest Brown Bears around the world. The Brown Bears that get up to 1500 pounds are very rare.

Polar Bears

Polar Bears are right up there with the larger bears in the world. An adult male Polar Bear can weigh up to 1760 pounds!! A Polar Bears scientific name is Ursus Maritimus. Their specie group is Marine Mammals. Polar Bears are endangered. If the world were to ever end, Polar Bears would be the first to go because they are so used to cold climates. All this talk about global warming is putting every single Polar Bear in danger. Even the slightest climate change could put this species in danger. They hunt for mainly Seals.

Can You Guess What Animal I am.......?

I stay small, medium or big. I come in all different colors. I only have four legs. I like too chase things around outside. I'm a house pet. Did you guess it by now? I'm a dog! I love how many different breeds there are of dogs. My favorite kind of dog would defiantly have to be a German Shepard. I think those dogs are so beautiful, and those dogs are very good when trained well.

“We can judge the heart of person by his treatment of animals.” -Immanual Kant I love this quote because I really think it’s true. If someone’s going to treat a poor innocent dog like its nothing to them and abuse them, what makes you think that person even has a heart? Because I sure in the heck don't think he or she has one. That poor dog can't do much to protect itself is it won’t. Unless the dog does protect itself, then it could bite, growl and claw the person hurting it.

Dogs have been around for so long. Back in the day, about 150 years ago, dogs were only used for an energy source. Nothing less and nothing more. Since dogs have been around for a long time, there’s obviously breeds older than other breeds. A breed is when an animal produces an offspring in a usual organized controlled way. Some of the older breeds of dogs that have been around a lot longer are, the Afghan Hound, Akita Inu, Basenji, The Chinese Shar Pei, and The Chow Chow. I actually had a Chow Chow so I think that's pretty cool.

The average dog is as smart as a two-year-old. Dogs can understand about 250 words and hand gestures people say and do around them. They can count up to five and do a basic math problem.

Dogs don’t really enjoy being hugged like the average person, but they will but one paw around you or on you to show their love or dominance. Which is weird, I hug my dogs all the time, they seem not to care.

I love dogs, but sometimes they can be a lot to handle. Especially when they are a puppy, it’s like having a child. On average, a dog can live up to 10-13 years old. Even if you don’t have a friend, or a significant other around, and you have a dog, you’ll always have a friend around no matter what. That’s why dogs are so cool!

Giraffes

Giraffes are my favorite animal, so they had to be next. They’ve been my favorite animal for a very long time. I even have a tattoo of a giraffe on my thigh. I have a million giraffe things from blankets, stuffed animals, figurines, a giraffe print phone and you name it. What’s your favorite animal?

Giraffes get very tall, up to 15 ft. tall. There tongs are even pretty long, they get usually to 21 inches long. All the different types of giraffes has different types of spots. There is about 9 different types of giraffes. Thornicroft giraffe, Nigerian giraffe, Rothschild giraffe, Masai giraffe, Reticulated giraffe, Angolan giraffe, South African giraffe, West African giraffe, and the Okapi giraffe. All of these giraffes spots are shaped differently, either darker or lighter browns. They are all different.

They can run up to 35 miles per hour. They live in grass lands with small groups of other giraffes. A giraffe is a mammal and it’s an herbivore. Their life span in the wild is 25 years. An advantage of their long neck is they can reach tall trees for food that other animals can’t reach. Also seeing over the trees helps them see other animals before they see them.  Giraffes eat almost all of the time, usually hundreds of pounds of leaves each week. They have to travel a lot to find good.

Some animals that eat giraffes are, cheetahs and lions. Spotted hyenas, leopards and Nile crocodiles will all take ahold giraffe calves whenever they get a chance. Some other animals are too scared to try and attack a giraffe because of how tall they are. When a lion attacks an adult giraffe, the giraffes kick can kill the lion.

A giraffe carries their young for 15 months. A baby giraffe is called a calf. A baby giraffe starts walking as soon as they’re born just in case they need to run off with the herd if they’re in danger. After about six months the baby giraffe leaves its mother. A group of giraffes can be called a herd, corps, tower, and a group.

Mostly no giraffes are endangered. There is one species that is classified as being endangered. It’s the West African Giraffe. That makes me upset because giraffes are my favorite animal, and the way this world is…. I’m not sure there will be any left in the future or a lot left of certain wild animals.

Tigers

Tigers are the largest cat in the cat family in the world. Some have orange fur and black stripes. Then some have white fur and black stripes. There are nine different types of tigers. Bengal, Siberian, Indochinese, South Chinese, Sumatran, Malayan, Caspian, Javan and Bali. Out of all these different types, the last three are extinct, another ones extinct, and the rest are endangered.

Tigers mainly eat certain things like deer, wild pigs, antelope and water buffalo. They hunt animals as well, crocodiles, monkeys and leopards. In the 1900’s 100,000 Tigers were around. Tigers range from South and South East Asia to far eastern shores. Today they are only found in China and the Russian east part of the world.

Tigers have many different habitats, like forests, savannah, rocky county, and grasslands. Tigers are more active at night. There stripes provide a camouflage. Tigers are very heavy so they use their body weight to help get their prey. They then bite there neck to kill them. Tigers are very very good swimmers and can even kill prey while swimming. They love to be around tall grasses and trees so they can scope out their prey without them noticing and then they attack.

During mating season the female tigers get very protective and make their territory all around their home or habitat. November to April is usually mating season time. The female tiger carries her cubs in her womb for about 103 days. About three or four cubs are in a litter.

The cubs stay around their mom for about 8 weeks, then become independent at 18 months. Then when two and a half years goes by, they leave there mom. Tigers live 10 – 15 years, and get to about 3/3 and a half feet at their shoulders. Then in length from head to body they get about 6 feet. They can weigh up to 400 – 675 pounds. They have huge paws and claws and could easily kill a human. The only predator a tiger has is humans and possibly a gorilla, but the gorilla still doesn’t have such a good chance at killing the tiger.

My favorite type of tiger is the white tiger, also known as the White Bengal Tiger. Mostly found in India. The white tiger is very rare and as years go by the get rarer. Tigers becoming so rare is due to human’s trophy hunting or people are capturing them for an exotic pet trade L

The Reason I chose this Topic is......

I chose this topic because my whole life I've been surrounded by cats and dogs. When I get older and realized there was more animals than just cats and dogs I fell in love. I could never chose which animal was my favorite, it was a different animal every day. From sharks, to hippos to snakes. Any animal you name it, it was my favorite at some point.

I've always loved going to the zoo and whatever animal was my favorite at the time, that's the animal I wanted to go see first. People need to know what cruel things people do to wild animals and non-wild animals, hunting tigers and killing them for their fur. Using bunnies and birds to experiment new make-up products on them. That's another reason why my blog is about any animal. Animals have feelings and that’s something some people don’t understand and it makes me sick. People abuse animals like there worthless.

I’ll be basically giving information about a different animal every blog post. Things like their habitat, what they eat, there skin type, like fur or scales, land or water animal, wild or not, you name it. I hope you all enjoy my blog and all the facts I’ll be posting about animals. So which animal do you think I’ll pick first?
